The Secondary School Theatre Group will present an adaptation of one of the greatest comedies of the 20th century -  The Accidental Death Of An Anarchist by Dario Fo.
Written in 1970, this piece remains surprisingly relevant, being a satirical take on the abuse of power, the manipulation of truth and the creation of "Fake News"!
Based on real events, this famous piece by the Italian Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo, humourously follows the counter-investigation around the implausible circumstances surrounding the "alleged" suicide of the anarchist Giuseppe Pinelli, who reportedly jumped from the 4th floor of a police station during a interrogation in Milan in 1969.
While working on the techniques of interpretation and staging, the students of this production will also reflect on the nature of the farce, its roots in Commedia dell'arte and the political ideas and style of Fo. The unique blend of seriousness and comedy, indignation and ridicule, gives Dario Fo's masterpiece its power and its powerful message. Something that the censors, politicians and religious leaders of the time did not fail to recognize.
To see or participate in this production will help students understand some of the ways in which injustice and hypocrisy can flourish in both the past and the present, and provide an excellent opportunity for students to explore the world. importance of freedom of expression through the performing arts.
