Artist in residence
26 April to 20 May
Syrian-Palestinian cartoonist Hani Abbas will be the on campus resident artist at the Centre des arts. Born in 1977 in the refugee camp of Yarmouk, near Damascus in Syria, Hani had to flee Syria after receiving threats for publishing politically sensitive cartoons. Seeking asylum and settling in Switzerland, he continues to denounce the atrocities of war through his cartoons. In May 2014, he was awarded the Editorial Cartoon International Prize by Kofi Annan. He is also part of Cartooning for Peace, an international network of committed press cartoonists who use humour to fight for the respect of cultures and freedom of expression.
Hani Abbas will be on campus from 26 April to 20 May, and will hold his workshop on the second floor of the Centre des arts.
