The brainchild of conductor Franck Fontcouberte and violin virtuoso Mateja Marinkovic, The United Strings of Europe is a recently-formed ensemble made up of exceptionally talented young musicians from across Europe with the goal of promoting musical and cultural cooperation at the highest level.

Under the direction of Principal Conductor Franck Fontcouberte and Leader Julian Azkoul, the ensemble is gaining recognition for its exciting performances and diverse programming. USE embraces a wide range of repertoire for various instrumental combinations and has worked with a number of soloists including Hildegarde Fesneau, Marc Benzekri, Mateja Marinkovic and Ljubisa Jovanovic. The ensemble is keen to promote new music and recently gave a series of performances of works by Stevan Hristic, and the world premiere of Marinkovic's Violin Concerto on Balkan Themes.

The members of the United Strings of Europe are distinguished chamber musicians and orchestral players, with several members holding senior positions in British orchestras. The ensemble is also very committed to education and outreach, being the resident ensemble for four years in a row at the Montpellier Conducting Academy as well as offering workshops that enable young people to discover classical and new music. USE recorded Bartok's Divertimento and a number of works with the young French soloist Hildegarde Fesneau in 2015 which is slated for release in the near future.
