Conference - L'Attentat
Friday, September 4th 2015 at 10:00
Auditorium, Centre des arts, La Grande Boissière
Thanks to a long-term collaboration with one of literature’s most important cultural events, Le Livre sur les Quais in Morges, the International School of Geneva is pleased to welcome writer Yasmina Khadra to the Centre des arts to meet with students.
This event is intended principally for students who are studying one of the author’s works for the official program of the International Baccalaureate and Swiss maturity degree. They will be studying The Attack, the first book of a trilogy by the writer. Students from the three campuses of the Foundation who are studying this work are invited to this event, which will also be open to the Ecolint community as well as the public from the Geneva area by advance booking.
In an interview with Le Monde des Livres, Yasmina Khadra revealed that a man was concealed behind his feminine identity. In The Writer, published in 2001, the mystery was dispelled. Yasmina Khadra, whose real name is Mohamed Moulessehoul, had already published news articles and novels under his nom de plume in Algeria. As an officer in the Algerian Army, he took part in the war against terrorism, leaving the military in 2000 with the rank of major to devote himself to his true calling. Writing in French, Khadra made his debut with the novel Morituri. Today a writer of international
renown, Yasmina Khadra has been translated into 33 languages.
The event Le Livre sur les Quais is above all a chance for readers to meet their favourite authors. There is a large space for book signing, where readers can meet not just novelists but historians, essayists, philosophers and children’s book writers as well. The journalist Patrick Ferla will act as moderator for the students.
Open to all. Free entry.
