IB Workshop with Garo

Bernard Garo & Ecolint Students

Opening Thursday, September 3 2015 from 18:00 to 20:00
Exhibition from September 4 to 28 2015

Centre des arts, La Grande Boissière

This exhibition presents the results of work produced by the students of Year 12 in Visual Arts for the International Baccalaureate following the residence of artist Bernard Garo, which took place over three days in June, 2015.

Known for his very large canvases and use of unusual media, such as latex, sand and asphalt, Bernard Garo inspired and captivated students when they visited his studio. They had the opportunity to ask him questions and gained a sense of what is necessary to emulate his method. They were given the assignment of envisioning how they in turn would develop their ideas together with the artist during his residence, and transfer them onto canvas while reflecting on the relation between the act of painting and the dimensions of the work produced. The students also had to consider how their work would be presented in the setting of the Centre des arts.

The Visual Arts Department thanks the PTA at La Châtaigneraie for contributing financially to this new initiative.
