Akiko Fujimoto is the foremost contemporary interpreter of Jiuta, a musical style from the Edo period (17th-21st century), and of musical selections for koto, a pinched string instrument. She is the daughter of the celebrated "living national treasure" Kunie Fujii. Akiko Fujimoto's style of singing perfectly embodies the world of Jiuta. Her mesmerising voice has been acclaimed both in Japan and around the world.
