Following the great success of “Aladdin” (2015) the LGB Drama Group students will again stage a British Pantomime in the Theatre at the Centre des Arts this year.
A Pantomime or “PANTO”, as it is commonly known, is a fast moving musical comedy usually based on a well-known fairy tale. A PANTO is A BRITISH theatrical tradition designed for family entertainment and is usually performed in the period around Christmas and New Year.
A pantomime includes special effects, popular songs, innuendo, slapstick comedy and dance. Traditionally at least one main female role is played by an actor (the Dame) and a leading male role is taken by an actress (the Principal Boy).
PANTOs combine topical humour with audience participation and interactions. The audience is often encouraged to sing along, to “boo” the villain and to shout out comments and stock phrases to the performers in an attempt to help the hero or heroine in his or her quest.
Students from the Senior Drama group will research the basics of this Theatre Traditions and will perform on 3 days in the Centre des arts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday December 1st, 2nd and 3rd - 2016 at 19.00. Get your tickets early as the Pantomime is sure to be another sell-out!!!
